Action to Tackle Fly-tipping

Labour Councillors have announced new measures to tackle fly-tipping across the borough with the launch of two new initiatives.

Like the rest of the country, Barking and Dagenham continues to face challenges with fly tipping and your Labour team are determined that this anti-social behaviour must change.

Thanks to additional funding from the Labour government, through the Fair Funding Settlement, the Council has been able to pilot a new service making bulky waste collection free for residents – up to four times a year.

We hope this will discourage fly-tipping by making it even cheaper and easier for residents to arrange for bulky waste collection. For more information and to book a collection, click here.

Labour Leader of the Council Dominic Twomey said: “We’re determined to put an end to fly tipping in Barking and Dagenham and we’re hoping these new initiatives will be the start of the winning battle”

Also announced was a new quick response, seven-day-a-week fly-tip removal crew, which has been introduced to clear unreported fly tips more quickly.

The Labour Councillors have encouraged various creative ways of tacking fly-tipping, including developing a Wall of Shame to help change behaviours.

Your Labour team also regularly join Action Days and community litter picks each month to focus on known hotspots – you’ll see some of this on our ward pages.

As always, if you spot fly-tipping you can report it directly to the council here. This is the quickest way to ensure they know about it, and it’s removed promptly.

Labour Councillor Kashif Haroon, Cabinet Member for Public Realm and Climate Change added: “We will continue to take action against people who fly-tip through fines and prosecution.”

If you have evidence of anyone fly-tipping you can also send evidence to the Council by email.
