  • Ward Achievements

Since the last election, we’ve handled over 200 cases for local residents and regularly attend meetings to listen and act on issues like housing, safety and street cleaning. Marion has joined our team, bringing strong experience tackling litter, fly- tipping and improving Ripple Nature Reserve.

We also worked to fix traffic issues on Thames View, reducing through traffic while making sure residents aren’t unfairly fined.

We continue to support residents facing high service charges, pushing for fairness and greater transparency.

A Passion for Litter Picking and Pride in Barking Riverside Ward.

    Marion Hull writes:

Prior to my decision to stand as councillor, I maintained a strong commitment to environmental issues and their remediation.

Since 2020, I have been an active member of Roding Rubbish B&D Community Litter Pickers, and in 2022, I assumed the role of co-leader within the group. We are a team of dedicated volunteers who organise regular litter picking activities, working to improve green spaces throughout the borough. The outcomes of our initiatives are showcased on our Facebook and Instagram pages.

During my visits around Barking Riverside Ward, I have identified areas affected by litter accumulation and fly-tipping. Whenever I encountered incidents of fly-tipping, I ensured they were reported appropriately. Additionally, I have personally participated in litter picking along Galleons Drive, Renwick Road, and Keel Close.

On one occasion in Keel Close, I engaged with a resident who questioned my actions as I consolidated rubbish for easier collection by the street cleansing team. I clarified my role, explained that I had reported the fly-tipping, and notified the street cleansing team about my activities. I assured him that the waste would be removed promptly the following day.

I extend my appreciation to the street cleansing team for their continued support and timely removal of collected refuse.

  • Riverside Cleanup

    Riverside Cleanup

Your Barking Riverside Labour team have been out over the last few days lending a hand to the ward clean up – this time around Keel Close and Galleons drive last week.

Throughout the year our teams are out knocking on doors and listening to concerns of residents. We always report fly-tipping to the council when we spot it. But you can really help by us by reporting it as soon as you spot it.

Your Labour Council have taken a number of measures recently to tackle fly-tipping including the announcement of free-bulky waste collection and new roving teams dedicated to spotting and removing fly-tipping.

If you have any evidence of those committing fly-tipping you can also help the council to prosecute the offenders by sending in any evidence to the council here.

  • Apply for a Postal Vote

    Apply for a Postal Vote

Labour volunteer teams have been out across the ward extensively over the last few week listening to residents. A number of residents have asked about applying for postal votes for the elections in May.

Voting by post is the safest and easiest way to make sure your vote counts. The quickest and easiest way setup postal voting is by applying online via the Government’s website here.

You can also download, print out and fill in a paper postal vote application form. This should then be sent to your local Electoral Registration Office.

Your Labour Community Team can help with lots of things, but unfortunately we can’t help you complete or return these forms. Do ask a friend or neighbour if you need help.

  • Campaign for GP Surgery in Barking Riverside

GPs in Barking already look after 20% more patients than the national average – Barking is being underserved by our NHS.

In Barking Riverside, thousands of new homes are being built with no new health services locally, causing pressure on the rest of the borough.

Residents were promised a primary care facility as part of the Barking Riverside development, but these plans have stalled.

You can join local Labour MP Nesil Caliskan’s campaign to tell the developers and the NHS that Barking deserves better – Barking Riverside needs a new GP surgery to end the postcode lottery for healthcare.

You can support the campaign here.
