Heath Ward

This morning Labour Councillors held our Ward Walkabout in Heath Ward with Council Officers from ASB, Enforcement, Housing, Caretaking and Resident Engagement to identify and rectify issues across Heath Ward.

We raised issues in the following roads: Marston Ave, Marston Cl, Oglethorpe Rd, Heathway alleyway, Rusholme Ave, Bosworth Rd, Wythenshawe Rd, Bosworth alleyway, Braintree Rd, Stansgate Rd, Pembroke Gds, Fells Cl, Kershaw Rd, Oxlow Ln and Trefgarne Rd

Issues raised included: litter, flytipping, repairs, ASB, crime, dumped building materials, potholes, building safety and security, refuse and bulk waste points, street lighting, regeneration, general caretaking and enforcement of abandoned vehicles.

Residents will have seen the abandoned caravans on Wythenshawe Road.

We saw these on our recent ward walkabout and have taken swift action to ensure they’ve been cleared.

Your Labour Councillors and community team were out in Heath Ward yesterday (Thursday 20th September) talking to residents in and around Braintree Road about local issues.

On Wednesday 8th May, your Heath Ward Labour councillors marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a pop-up stall offering colouring, sandwiches, cakes and cuppas to residents passing by on their way home.

While it wasn’t a formal event, we felt it was important to create space in the community to pause, reflect and remember the courage and sacrifice of all those who fought for peace and freedom during the Second World War. VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) marks the day in 1945 when fighting came to an end in Europe — a moment of huge historical and emotional significance.

It was lovely to see so many of you stop by, in honour of the day. 

As councillors, we’re proud to represent a community that values history, solidarity, and the small moments that bring people together. Thank you to everyone who joined us — whether for five minutes or a full conversation — and helped mark eight decades since the end of war in Europe.

As your Heath Ward councillors, we are pleased to share that — following sustained pressure and ongoing conversations with senior officers — we helped secure a three-week intensive policing and community safety operation right here in Heath Ward.

This action is a direct response to the concerns you’ve raised about anti-social behaviour, community safety, and crime. Working closely with Barking and Dagenham Council and the Metropolitan Police, we’ve ensured that Heath Ward receives the attention and resources it deserves.

Over three weeks in May, the operation included:

• Fire Safety and Crime Prevention Talks
• Community Weapon Sweeps
• Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Awareness Walk
• Walk & Talks, Caretaker Walks, and School Safety Sessions
• Feedback Meetings to hear from you directly
  

This is just the start — we’re committed to making sure our community feels heard, safe, and supported.
